Garden Tomb

Mark 15:22 (ESV) “22 And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull).”
Whether on this hill or not it makes no difference. What does matter is that what took place on this hill is that the prophesy of Genesis 3:15 was fulfilled: satan’s head was crushed!
Hebrews 2:14 (ESV) 14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,

John the Baptist

John the Baptist’s home was near the this Judean Hill spot. Sometimes we just need to take a coffee and ice cream break.

"Mary's Spring"

After Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:26-38) Mary went to visit her cousin in the hills outside of Jerusalem.  Luke 1:39-45 (ESV) 39 In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, 40 and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, 42 and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”  John the Baptist knew the Gift of God (Jesus) that Mary was carrying.  John the Baptist was but 6 months old in his mother’s womb and knew whom Mary was carry for he “leaped for joy.”  Is faith and wisdom of God a gift of God or what!?  The angel was right when he told Mary (Luke 1:37), “For nothing is impossible with God!”

"The Book of the Shrine"

“The Book of the Shrine” is a musuem in Jerusalem which houses many of the artifacts found at Qumran Caves.  Among the scrolls found is the whole book of Isaiah as we have it today.  Think of this…. these scrolls were written sometime in the 100-300 B.C. time period and they are the same as we have in Isaiah. This is a manuscript separated from the original manuscript by only a few hundred years. Jesus’ words are certainly true (John 17:17 ESV), 17 Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.  You can rely of Holy Scriptures for being accurate and true.  NO other religion can have this assurance and blessing!

Wailing Wall at Night

Yesterday we visited this wall.  Tonight we visited the “Tunnel to the Ancient Wall” where the entrance is at the “Western Wall.”

Genesis Land Camel Ride

The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave you country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessings.  I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will blessed through you" (Genesis 12:1-3).  "Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land....From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his ten, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the LORD. Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev" (12:6-8).

Testing Week was great!

The third grade had perfect attendance and great attitudes as we walked through our standardized testing days.  We all enjoyed no homework, longer recesses and of course the wonderful treats!  We also finished C.S. Lewis' "The Last Battle" which is a fantasy with spiritual undertones.  The children asked terrific questions and all did well on both their written test and on the AR test that they were allowed to take after we finished the book.
This week the room is decorated with castles and treasure chests as we begin the "Fairy Tale" unit.  The students will write original tales, act in fractured fairy tales and learn all about the components the fantasy genre. It is great fun!  Some of our writing will be displayed for the Young Author's Celebration on Friday.
The third graders will have a substitute in the next few days as I will become a grandmother for the fourth time.  I will go to Atlanta to welcome my new grandson, Liam into the world.  They are excited for me!
We are all thanking God that Mr.and Mrs. Greidl have accepted the call and will be joining our staff for the 2010-2011.  They will actually be moving here at the end of May.  God is so good to OSLA!
The Third Graders are wanted by God and are growing in His grace everyday!

It is Holy Week!

Once again we will walk through the week that Jesus walked on the road to the cross.  I am looking forward to the Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Celebration services although life in our home is always quite busy!  As I hope my third grade families already know, we have had to postpone testing until next week due to an error by our testing company!  I actually think it will work well giving us another week to review and having Easter weekend and its excitement over.  I hope that you have a wonderful day!

Spring Break is wonderful!

I hope that my third graders are having a wonderful spring break.  I have been enjoying my family. I just returned from Birmingham where I got to play with my sweet granddaughters and celebrate my daughter's birthday.  Tomorrow, my niece and nephew will arrive for a four day visit.  I also have had time to do some planning for our 4th quarter of third grade.  I am excited to get back to work on Monday.  May God bless you all and I will see you on Monday.

Third Grade is working hard!

   March 4
I am pleased with the progress that is being made in third grade.  The students "flew" through geometry and started division.  It has been a little tricky to truly understand that it is the opposite of multiplication!  Today's practice of "Down by the Creek Bank" was excellent.  The message of Jesus' love is shining through the children.
Science Fair Project information is going home tomorrow and it will be interesting to see the projects the students choose to do.
Next week we will celebrate Lutheran School's Week with special dress and activities each day.  It will be a bit wild but a great way to finish out our third quarter.  There are so many things to look forward to in the future:
Lutheran School's Week   March 8-12
Down by the Creek Bank  March 11
Spring Break  March 15-20
Standardized testing
Science Fair and Young Author's Celebration in April
Field Day in May
I hope you've tried the links;  I will be adding more websites next week.  "This is the day the Lord has made and I am rejoicing and am glad in it"!

Monday's Day!

Third grade had a good day to day although we missed Nathan, at home with a slight concussion, and Logan, at home with a virus.  We prayed often for them.   We started division.  Remember boys and girls, it is the opposite of multiplication!  Next week is Lutheran Schools Week with special dress and activities each day!  We also had fun walking or running a whole mile in the gym!  (There were some weary third graders!)  Try the links to favorite web sites on this page.  Just click and it should take you to them!  Have a great night.  Remember to "rejoice in everything" tonight!
